Environmental Operations

Environmental Monitoring

One of the main activities of our environmental operations is environmental monitoring. Environmental monitoring studies are carried out to ensure legal compliance within the scope of legal requirements, international standards and best practices, to determine the environmental impact levels arising from operations and to take precautions if necessary.

In environmental monitoring, surface and groundwater quality is monitored by having samples taken from various monitoring points by personnel authorized by the T.C. Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change at frequencies determined according to legal obligations and best practices and having the necessary analyses performed in both internationally and nationally accredited laboratories.

Similarly, meteorological parameters, air quality effects, environmental vibration and environmental noise effects are monitored through numerous environmental stations installed within the environmental impact area, equipped with the best equipment and representing the settlements.

Apart from these, soil quality is also monitored through analysis of samples taken at specified frequencies from the points specified in the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report, conducted in accredited laboratories.

Environmental monitoring results are shared with local authorities at regular intervals. These results are also shared with local people in our area of influence.

Carbon Management

As part of our environmental sustainability efforts, sustainability metrics are continuously monitored towards the 2050 net zero carbon target, and carbon reduction projects are carried out through the interdepartmental “Carbon Team”.

Biodiversity

Another activity carried out within the scope of sustainability studies is biodiversity studies. The seeds of endemic species identified within the scope of biodiversity studies are delivered to the gene bank, and these species are also grown and developed in the greenhouse established on our site to be transported to rehabilitation areas.

As part of biodiversity studies, monitoring studies are carried out at routine intervals in the mine site and its immediate surroundings by the best biodiversity experts in Turkey, and we create projects to improve the wildlife outside the mine.

Rehabilitation Studies

Following the completion of mining activities, rehabilitation works will commence in accordance with the commitments outlined in the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). This process aims to ensure that the mine site is harmonized with the natural environment, with a strong emphasis on environmental sustainability principles and the restoration of the ecosystem.

As part of the rehabilitation efforts, soil stabilization, revegetation, and ecological restoration steps that support the natural structure of the region will be meticulously implemented. Rehabilitation work has not yet started in production areas on-site, while partial rehabilitation has been carried out in some non-production areas.

Waste Management

Our environmental department is responsible for the management of wastes other than the main mining activity. In this context, all wastes from the field are separated according to international waste codes. Hazardous wastes and recycling wastes are transported to licensed recycling, recovery or disposal facilities with licensed vehicles. Biodegradable wastes, especially from dining halls in the mine site, are converted into compost and used in rehabilitation works. Another responsibility of our environmental operations is the operation of domestic wastewater treatment facilities.

Environmental Management

Activities such as Environmental and Social Impact Assessments, obtaining Operational Environmental Permits and Licenses, and making timely environmental notifications, which are carried out in full compliance with the requirements of local legislation and international standards, are carried out under the Compliance function of the Environmental Department. Our environmental activities are carried out within the scope of an active and constantly developing Environmental Management System and also have ISO 14001:2015 certification.
